This is a fantastic collection of King Crimson, and at the time it was released, it was a "must have" simply for the 4th CD, a sampling of live songs spanning '69 - '84. At that time, there was little live Crimson available, especially in CD format. But now, there is a wide variety of live Crimson that is easy to get.
With Bill Bruford, John Wetton, David Cross and, briefly, Jamie Muir, they reached what some saw as a creative peak on Larks' Tongues in Aspic (1973), Starless and Bible Black (1974), and Red (1974). King Crimson disbanded at the end of 1974. After seven years of inactivity, King Crimson was reborn in 1981 with another change in musical direction.

There is an interesting anecdote regarding the Mellotron featured on this record: It was later acquired by Genesis shortly after the mild success of their record Nursery Cryme and it is on the same Mellotron heard on “In the Court of the Crimson King,” “21st Century Schizoid Man” and elsewhere that Genesis wrote and recorded the opening to “Watcher of the Skies”, the opening track
